About Us

The Puppet Animation Festival is the UK's oldest and largest children's theatre festival.

The Puppet Animation Festival started life as a week long event at the Netherbow Arts Centre in Edinburgh in 1984 and has grown since then to cover the length and breadth of Scotland from the Scottish Borders to the Shetland Isles.

The Festival is now truly national and has a network of partnerships with 26 of Scotland's 32 local authorities as well as with a wide range of venues throughout the country, meaning that more than 300 events take place every year in more than 150 veunes.

The Festival offers a wide selection of puppetry and animation performances for children and families in all parts of Scotland - inner cities, suburbs and rural areas. Last year alone, more than 20,000 children, young peope and adults came along to at least one festival event.

Along the way, it has expanded its programme and in addition to the jam packed public performance programme, the Festival also has a lively and engaging schools programme. Just under half of the Festival's event now take place in school classrooms and halls and these events are a great way to introduce young children to the arts curriculum.

The search engine on this newly launched website along with brochures distributed locally will help find out what's on at a venue near you and help you choose which of the 26 shows and eight workshops you would like to see.
